Rt. Wor. Bro. Grant Poulin

District Deputy Grand Master - 2012/2013

Happily married for thirty-five years, Grant Poulin and wife Joanne, have 3 children. His oldest daughter Erin lives in Belleville and works for the Hasting and Prince Edward District School Board as an Elementary Curriculum Coordinator.  His middle child, daughter Breanne, is currently attending Lakehead University in the nursing program with the intent of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Youngest son, Christopher, is a Radiation Technologist who lives in Winnipeg and is planning to return to medical school.  He also has three grandchildren, Jenna age 11, Samantha age 9, and Alexa age 3.

 

Grant has worked at Toromont Cat, the local Caterpillar dealer for thirty-four years.  Currently, he is in inside sales but has also worked in the service department as well as health and safety supervisor. He has taught a night school health and safety course at Confederation College and assisted local businesses in delivering training programs to their employees. In the early 80ís, Grant completed the Photographers course at Confederation College and worked part time with Sooter Studios and Bill Davis Photography doing team photos, model portfolios and wedding photography.

 

Since 1991, he has started and developed many small businesses such as marketing coin drop breathalyzers and vending machines. He started and co-owned a cleaning business that developed into commercial and residential cleaning as well as the sales and rental operation of entrance mats.  This eventually advanced to the ownership of a local coin-operated Laundromat, video and ice cream store; all of which have since been sold.

 

Grant has been involved in community activities since his teens.  He began volunteering by working with the Salvation Army.  He volunteered during the Christmas season with the kettle collections and supported the Lakehead Coral Group as a stagehand assisting them with many productions.

 

As an adult, Grant was President for the Thunder Bay Ringette Association, as well as, served in many other capacities within the organization including coach, convener, publicity chairman, Coordinator of the Ontario Provincial Championships & delegate to the Ontario Provincial Ringette Association.  He also served as an executive member of the Loyal Order of the Moose receiving the Rookie of the Year award for contributions to the organization and membership recruitment.

 

He has been a twenty year executive member of the Chapples Menís Golf Club, serving as head of the Chapples Invitational Tournament, handicap chairman, coordinator for the Chapples Junior Program, organizer for city run Future Links Program, as well as, Junior Chairman and Vice President for the Thunder Bay & District Golf Association.

 

He was also a former member of the Thunder Bay District Labour Council, the Ontario Provincial Council of Machinists, the Canadian Labour Congress and a certified Occupational Health and Safety instructor for the Province of Ontario

 

Grant currently sits on the executive of the Lakehead Shrine Club as the VP, President of the Thunder Bay Masonic Foundation, PM of the Connaught Lodge 511 and is a 32nd degree Scottish Right Mason in addition to being the 2012-2013 District Deputy Grand Master for the District of Algoma.
